Planned Giving

Welcome to your resource for planned giving!

It's no secret that the programs of Hospice of the Chesapeake depend upon your goodwill. In this section of our website, you will soon find many interesting ways to help Hospice of the Chesapeake and investment solutions that work for your needs.

Please Note: If you or a family member are age 70 or older, there is a special opportunity in charitable giving that will expire at the end of this year!

While Congress has postponed the Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for 2009, they have created a special provision allowing you to transfer funds from your Traditional IRA (or SEP or SIMPLE IRA) directly to a qualified charitable organization 501(c)(3), paying no tax on the distribution.

This can translate into 100% tax savings for you on the amount distributed, since the Traditional IRA funds tend to be tax-deferred. If you were to make the same gift from a taxable savings account, you would receive no tax benefit unless you itemize your deductions, and in most cases, the effective deduction is less than 20%.

The maximum amount you can transfer from your Traditional IRA in 2009 is $100,000, and you must have the firm holding your IRA funds pay the check directly to the qualified charity. This special provision is due to expire on December 31.

If you have questions on this process, please contact James Brennan, or any member of our Planned Giving Counsel, at 410.975.0099 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
