Johns Hopkins Study
Hospice of the Chesapeake is participating in a joint study with the National Cancer Institute and Johns Hopkins
Hospice of the Chesapeake is actively participating in a Small Business Innovation Research project in conjunction with Johns Hopkins Medicine and the National Cancer Institute. Phase I of the project will focus on the creation of a software product, addressing pain and symptom management for hospice patients.
The National Cancer Institute awarded Medical Decision Logic, Inc. (mdlogix) a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I contract to develop a commercially viable web-based measurement and information software system to address pain and symptom management for terminally-ill patients. The software development process will center on understanding and meeting the needs of patients and their families, as well as supporting hospice staff to be more productive in identifying and defining best practices.
Area hospice patients are testing an operational software prototype during Phase I of the project through the use of a simple web-based user-friendly survey. The system will perform patient-driven outcome data monitoring, collection and reporting. This tool provides hospice care staff the ability to respond to issues of critical concern in an efficient and timely manner. An important goal for Phase I is to develop a process for improved communication and response to patient’s needs and the ability to gather information to establish patterns for best practices care implementation in the future.
Hospice of the Chesapeake is accepting currently enrolled patients into this research study. If interested, please contact Hospice of the Chesapeake to participate at 410.987.2003.
