Dear friends,
Every day, members of our team get to share time in the lives of people living with serious illness in our community. They may read or reminisce with a patient, provide respite for a caregiver, comfort someone who is grieving, help educate our community or help with administrative tasks in one of our offices. All this without receiving monetary compensation. They love knowing they are the calming voice, the welcoming heart, the helping hand, the listening ear, and the reassuring presence that makes a difference. They are our volunteers.
Every day, we are honored and grateful for each of our hundreds of volunteers who serve our patients, families, and team members across Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, and Prince George’s counties. They are dedicated to helping their neighbors and others in their communities live as fully as possible with illness and loss. They play vital roles in the hospice, supportive, and grief care we provide, helping us to serve over 5,400 community members last year. Thanks in no small part to our volunteers, Hospice of the Chesapeake is proud to be Maryland’s #1 independent, community-based hospice.
While we strive to express our gratitude every day, we make a special effort during National Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 20 to 26, to thank those who give so selflessly. If you know one of our volunteers, tell them how much we appreciate their dedication, compassion, and generous heart. We hope you will consider joining them. With gratitude,
