Hospice of the Chesapeake was granted $2,500 from the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County to help meet the special needs of pediatric hospice families during the COVID-19 pandemic. The award comes from the CFAAC COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund, a component fund of Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County.

Chief Advancement Officer Shauna Chabot said the funds will help support Chesapeake Kids, Hospice of the Chesapeake’s pediatric hospice program. Program families who are under-served, facing financial hardships because of COVID-19, or in need of emergency assistance to meet short-term costs for medical expenses not covered by insurance can benefit from the grant. Expenses can include medical equipment, supplies, prescription drugs, transportation costs for medical appointments, and other expenses related to their child’s care.

“Increasing support for these families during this extraordinarily challenging time is a high priority for our teams,” Chabot said. “Our pediatric social worker is helping these families navigate additional, longer-term resources to address their needs, including Medicaid and other assistance. Support from the CFAAC Emergency Relief Fund will provide urgently-needed temporary relief, freeing them to spend important time with their ill child.”

As a nonprofit hospice and palliative care organization that has served Anne Arundel County for more than 40-years, Hospice of the Chesapeake appreciates its long-time partnership with the CFAAC. “We are incredibly grateful for the foundation’s commitment to help us care for the patients and families in our community; past, present and future,” Chabot said.
