Docent-led tour of “Beauty in Maryland” in Gallery 90

July 20, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

The scenes are familiar to Marylanders; the sun setting behind the statehouse dome, a gull’s wings skimming the glassy waters of the shore. They are among 25 glimpses into nature, mostly of Maryland, captured through the lens of Susan Feimer Gallagher, the artist featured on the walls of Gallery 90.

Thanks to Hospice of the Chesapeake’s healing arts partner, Chesapeake Arts Center, 25 of Gallagher’s pieces are on display through Aug. 9 in the gallery throughout the nonprofit’s administrative building on the John & Cathy Belcher Campus at 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, Maryland. The show, “Beauty in Maryland,” portrays mostly outdoor shots of nature, primarily set in The Free State.

Gallagher has been around cameras all her life. Her father, Bill Feimer, was a crime lab photographer for the Baltimore City Police Department and did wedding photography on the side. She started accompanying her dad to weddings when she was 11, and eventually served as his second shooter. Though she took some photography courses in college, she limited her camera work over the next several decades to chronicling her children as they grew up. About seven years ago, she started looking through her viewfinder as an artist rather than as a mom.

Gallery 90 was established to realize the vision of creating a harmonious work environment for Hospice of the Chesapeake administrative staff and visiting nurses, caregivers and volunteers who work directly with patients and their families.

Free docent-led tours will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. July 20. For reservations, or to schedule a private tour for your group, contact Renate Little at rlittle@hospicechesapeake.org or 443-837-1512.
