Chesapeake Kids serves Anne Arundel & Prince George’s Counties by providing the layers of support and guidance that is often missing when a family is faced with a life-limiting illness in a child. We do this through planning activities for siblings and friends who often need reassurance and attention; managing symptoms to limit hospital and doctor visits; encouraging memory making activities; and educating schools and communities on how to support families in crisis. We also offer counseling and support programs for children and families grieving a loss.
“We can’t change the fact that children sometimes die, but Chesapeake Kids can provide a quiet presence in a family’s home, providing them with comfort, peace, and strength; hopefully, alleviating some fears and feelings of loneliness.”- Chesapeake Kids Nurse
Our customizable Chesapeake Kids legacy booklets, The Me Book for younger children and A Little Bit About Me for tweens and teens, provide a chance for children with life-threatening illnesses to reflect on and record their most treasured memories, accomplishments, and dreams. This is one of many opportunities for self-expression, memory making, and legacy building provided to children in the Chesapeake Kids program.
