Every gift you make has a story. A story of kindness, compassion and the difference you want to see in the world. And for many donors like you, a Donor- Advised Fund (DAF) is the tool that makes those stories possible—turning generosity into impact, simply and powerfully.
That’s why Hospice of the Chesapeake invites you to join DAF Day on October 9. It’s a nationwide movement to unlock the billions of charitable dollars already set aside in Donor-Advised Funds and put them to work where they’re needed most.
On DAF Day, donors like you open the door to that giving potential, transforming it into comfort, healing, and hope for families in our communities.
What is a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)?
Think of a DAF as a 401(k) for generosity. It’s a special giving account you establish through a financial services provider like Fidelity, Schwab, or Vanguard, or even through a community foundation. You make contributions into the account, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants to nonprofits you care about—like Hospice of the Chesapeake—whenever you’re ready.
It’s flexible. It’s tax-efficient. And most important, it ensures that your generosity reaches the causes closest to your heart.
Why give through your DAF on DAF Day?
When you recommend a grant from your DAF to Hospice of the Chesapeake, your generosity changes lives in tangible ways.
- One more holiday together. A family longs for one more Thanksgiving meal with their loved one at home. Hospice care makes it possible—focusing on comfort, dignity, and togetherness.
- A safe space for grieving children. At Chesapeake Life Center, a teenager who lost her mom learns to navigate her grief through an innovative role-playing game support group. She discovers courage, trust, and healing—all because someone like you gave.
- Care beyond what insurance covers. Music therapy, integrative arts, and veterans’ programs create moments of joy, honor and connection that no insurance policy pays for but that you make possible.
Every time you recommend a grant from your DAF, you are there at those moments—offering comfort, love, and hope.

With a DAF, you:
- Receive an immediate tax deduction when you contribute to your DAF.
- Have the flexibility to recommend grants over time, at moments that are meaningful to you.
- Create a family tradition of giving, inviting children and grandchildren to help decide where grants should go.
Many donors find that a DAF helps them align their financial planning with their philanthropic vision, maximizing impact and peace of mind.
